There
are three major components of Information Processing the; Sensory registers
which receive the big amount of information from the senses and holds it for a
very short time for initial processing for transfer to the short-term memory.
The Short-term or Working memory which holds the limited amount of information
paid attention to, organizes it for storage or for discarding and connecting to
other information. And the Long-term memory which keeps information for long
period of time and integrates it through rehearsal, elaboration and
organization with information that is already known.
There
are basic concepts in cognitive theories of Learning which are the Perception, Storage,
Encoding, Procedural memory, Semantic memory, Episodic memory. Information
processing theories is also applied in classroom teaching which gives us the
idea on how we implement the teaching strategies.
Commulative
Learning Theory According to Klausmeir, learning occurs as the individual
develops higher level skills that build successively on lower skills. There are
7 types of Learning according to level of skills/capabilities the Signal
learning, Stimulus-response
Learning, Motor
Chains/Verbal Chains Learning, Discriminating
Learning, Problem Solving,
Rule-Learning, Concept Learning This commulative
learning theory is also applied in classroom teaching in order for us to determine the kind of learner we encounter.
